چکیده
Lantana species are an important component of the U.S. environmental horticulture industry. The most commonly produced and used L . camara and, on a smaller scale, montevidensis Both were introduced to United States from Central and/or South America. native continental include canescens , depressa involucrata etc. them have not been well exploited. This study was conducted obtain information about somatic chromosome numbers, karyotypes, genome size these five species. Nuclear DNA content in ranged 2.74 pg/2C ( ) 6.29 L. var. ). Four numbers observed: 2 n = x 22 ‘Lola’ ‘Denholm White’, 4 44 24 involucrata, 3 36 montevidensis. Two basic 11 12 Analysis metaphases resulted formulas 20m + 2sm for 12m 12sm 44m 10m 14sm 32m 4sm Satellites identified all species, but associated with different group had longest total chromatin length (146.78 µm) range 1.88 4.41 µm individual chromosomes. maximum arm ratio observed 2.5 3. only that its centromeres located median region chromosome. results show significant differences nuclear content, number, karyotype among three two lantana will help identify, preserve, protect, use be helpful assessing ploidy levels genus by flow cytometry.

Karyotype and genome size in Euterpe Mart. (Arecaceae) species.
Euterpe (Martius, 1823), a genus from Central and South America, has species with high economic importance in Brazil, because of their palm heart and fruits, known as açaí berries. Breeding programs have been conducted to increase yield and establish cultivation systems to replace the extraction of wild material. These programs need basic information about the genome of these species to better ...
متن کاملRepellency of Lantana camara (Verbenaceae) flowers against Aedes mosquitoes.
The repellent effect of Lantana camara flowers was evaluated against Aedes mosquitoes. Lantana flower extract in coconut oil provided 94.5% protection from Aedes albopictus and Ae. aegypti. The mean protection time was 1.9 h. One application of Lantana flower can provide more than 50% protection up to 4 h against the possible bites of Aedes mosquitoes. No adverse effects of the human volunteers...
متن کاملKaryological studies in Brazilian species of Lippia L. (Verbenaceae).
The genus Lippia (Verbenaceae) comprise around 160 species spread out mainly in South and Central Americas with few African species, some of them with potential medicinal use. Brazil is one the most important centers of diversity with approximately 75% of the species described so far. Innumerous species are endemic and poorly studied especially at a cytological level. Here, chromosomal length, ...
متن کاملKaryotype and genome size of Iberochondrostoma almacai (Teleostei, Cyprinidae) and comparison with the sister-species I.lusitanicum
This study aimed to define the karyotype of the recently described Iberian endemic Iberochondrostoma almacai, to revisit the previously documented chromosome polymorphisms of its sister species I.lusitanicum using C-, Ag-/CMA(3) and RE-banding, and to compare the two species genome sizes. A 2n = 50 karyotype (with the exception of a triploid I.lusitanicum specimen) and a corresponding haploid c...
متن کاملGenome Size, Karyotype Polymorphism and Chromosomal Evolution in Trypanosoma cruzi
BACKGROUND The Trypanosoma cruzi genome was sequenced from a hybrid strain (CL Brener). However, high allelic variation and the repetitive nature of the genome have prevented the complete linear sequence of chromosomes being determined. Determining the full complement of chromosomes and establishing syntenic groups will be important in defining the structure of T. cruzi chromosomes. A large amo...
